There are two kinds: A stem cell transplant using the patient’s own stem cell (Autologous stem cell transplant) or they can use a stem cell form a donor’s body (Allogenic stem cell transplant)
Although a stem cell transplant is trusted there are several cases that end up in fatalities. It is when the host and the grafted cells do not agree with each other or not deemed compatible by the body and thus complications occur. There is also the possibility of the stem cell that has been transplanted to be damaged by the cancer cell and thus causing a secondary cancer. Also, there is a small percentage of death. Although the cases wherein a stem cell transplant goes wrong are quite few.
